Rafael Caro Quintero Undergoes Surgery and Returns to Prison

The former founder of the Guadalajara Cartel, Rafael Caro Quintero, was removed from the high-security federal prison 'Altiplano' to undergo a surgical intervention, as confirmed by the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). After completing the surgery and ensuring that his health was not in danger, Caro Quintero was returned to the Federal Center for Social Readaptation Number 1 (Cefereso), known as 'Altiplano', while the extradition processes against him are concluded.

The transfer from Cefereso to the hospital in Toluca, where the intervention was performed, was carried out by air with significant security deployment that included the participation of the Federal Protection Service (SPF), the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard (GN). During the transfer, which aimed to ensure the safety of citizens and those present at the hospital, no incidents were reported.

Rafael Caro Quintero was convicted of the murder of former DEA agent Enrique Camarena Salazar to 40 years in prison and is currently facing an extradition process requested by the United States. After his return to the federal prison 'Altiplano', his health status will continue to be monitored without any modification to his prison sentence being contemplated.

The operation carried out was scheduled in advance, it was not an emergency, and no news was reported during his stay in the hospital. After the surgery, the doctors determined that it was not necessary for him to remain longer in the hospital, so with the appropriate security measures, Rafael Caro Quintero was returned to Cefereso No. 1 'El Altiplano'.
