Arrest of 'El Nariz' in Toluca for Extortion and Homicide

The authorities of the State of Mexico have identified José Enrique “N”, alias ‘El Nariz’, as an important generator of violence in the region and the main operator of ‘El H1’ or ‘El Flaco’, who is believed to be the brother of José Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, known as ‘El Fresa’, and Johnny Hurtado Olascoaga alias ‘El Pez’, in the Toluca Valley. According to state authorities, ‘El Nariz’ was responsible for extorting owners of bars, restaurants, entertainment centers, and businesses in several municipalities, including Toluca, Metepec, Zinacantepec, and San Mateo Atenco, as part of a criminal group with roots in Michoacán. This type of extortion is known as “derecho de piso”.

José Enrique, alias ‘El Nariz’, 37 years old and originally from the El Seminario neighborhood in the capital of the State of Mexico, has been arrested by the state Attorney General’s Office. From a young age, ‘El Nariz’ was involved in criminal activities and recently operated under the orders of Josué “N”, alias ‘El Colima’, participating in extortions, illegal logging, and homicides in the Toluca Valley. Thanks to the collaboration between federal and state authorities, individuals of relevance were arrested, and part of the structure of the criminal group to which he belonged was dismantled.

Following the capture of ‘El Nariz’, his modus operandi and the way he and his criminal group carried out extortions in establishments have been revealed. In addition to collecting the so-called “derecho de piso”, ‘El Nariz’ is being investigated for his alleged participation in crimes such as disappearances, homicides, and assaults against members of rival gangs. The arrest of this individual has dealt a severe blow to the criminal organization with origins in Michoacán, which has had to restructure in the Toluca Valley following his arrest.

José Enrique ‘El Nariz’ is currently detained in the Santiaguito Social Reintegration Penitentiary Center in Almoloya de Juárez, awaiting a District Judge to determine his legal situation. Additionally, the Attorney General's Office has obtained an arrest warrant against him for his alleged participation in a triple homicide committed on November 19, 2023, in the municipality of Tenango del Valle.
