Former Mayor's Secretary Detained in Connection with His Murder

Yesterday, January 8, Yesenia “N”, who served as the private secretary of Uruapan's mayor, Carlos Manzo — murdered on November 1, 2025 — was detained in the municipality's center, according to data from the National Registry of Detentions, consulted this Wednesday. According to the official record, the apprehension was carried out by elements of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) at 4:05 PM, in front of the Mayor's Office, on García Ortiz Street, outside the Casa de la Cultura. Following her detention, Yesenia “N” was made available to the Attorney General's Office of Michoacán State, specifically before the Public Ministry Agency attached to the Unit for Investigation and Prosecution of Microtrafficking, where she remains in “transit” status. The National Registry of Detentions does not specify the reason for the apprehension nor the crimes with which she is charged, nor does it indicate if the detention is related to any ongoing investigation file. However, unofficial sources indicate that she allegedly leaked information about the mayor's movements and schedule to the criminal group that assassinated him. The official record details that the detainee has no aliases and describes her clothing at the time of apprehension as black pants, a long-sleeve white blouse, and a black vest, as well as her general physical characteristics. Yesenia “N” was publicly presented on July 21, 2024, by Carlos Manzo, when then-Mayor announced that she would assume the head of the Mayor's Office as of September 1 of that year. On that occasion, the municipal official highlighted her academic training in Law and postgraduate studies. The detention occurs just over two months after the murder of the municipal president of Uruapan, a case that remains under investigation and about which state authorities have not reported significant public advances. Until the close of this edition, the mayor of Uruapan, Grecia Quiroz, widow of Carlos Manzo, had not issued any public statement regarding the detention of someone who had been a close collaborator of her husband. Likewise, the Attorney General's Office of Michoacán State has not provided official information to explain the causes of the apprehension or to specify the legal status of the detainee.
