Mexican authorities have detained two more individuals allegedly involved in the murder of Carlos Manzo, mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, which occurred on November 1, 2025. This was announced by the head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, during a press conference held this Sunday. According to official information, the arrests were made on January 8 and 9, 2026, in the municipality of Uruapan, as a result of coordinated operations between the federal Security Cabinet and Michoacán authorities. The detainees were identified as Samuel 'N' and Josué Elogio 'N', alias 'Viejito', against whom arrest warrants were executed for the crimes of qualified homicide and qualified injuries. García Harfuch explained that, following cabinet investigations and telephone analysis, it was established that Samuel 'N' provided key information about the movements of the mayor on the day of the crime. 'As a result of cabinet investigations and telephone analysis, it was learned that Samuel 'N' (...) informed Josué Elogio 'N' of the details of Carlos Manzo's itinerary,' the official stated. According to the information presented, Samuel 'N' served as Director of Public Relations and Protocol, maintained communication with other implicated individuals, and was recorded moving near the location of the attack. Meanwhile, Josué Elogio 'N', who worked as a taxi driver, was arrested one day later. Following their capture, three searches were conducted in properties related to both, where drugs and communication equipment were secured. According to the authorities, these arrests add to the previously announced ones of Jorge Armando 'N', alias 'El Licenciado', identified as one of the masterminds; as well as Ricardo 'N', Jaciel Antonio 'N', Gerardo 'N', and Alejandro Baruc 'N', alias 'K-OZ', who is accused of leading a criminal cell operating in the region. During the conference, García Harfuch affirmed that the case is being investigated in coordination with the Attorney General's Office of the State of Michoacán, by order of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
