Authorities of the Mexican state of Michoacán, in the west of the country, have detained three more alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), implicated in the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1, 2025. Carlos Torres Piña, head of the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office, reported that the arrest of the three accused took place last Saturday in the municipality of Tarímbaro, a locality bordering the city of Morelia. Torres Piña did not reveal the identity of the three detainees, but mentioned that they were part of a hit cell led by Alejandro Baruk Castellanos Villafaña 'El K-OZ', currently imprisoned and who would have been in charge of coordinating the hitmen who carried out the mayor's murder during the traditional Candle Festival on November 1st, in the main square of Uruapan. According to the state Prosecutor's Office, to date, 18 people have been detained for their involvement in the murder of Carlos Manzo, including these three latest suspects who join 'El K-OZ' and his boss Jorge Armando Gómez Sánchez 'The Lawyer' or 'The Accountant', presumed CJNG leader in Michoacán, who would have coordinated the homicide through a messaging group on the social network Threema. Another of the detainees is Samuel García Rivero, Director of Public Relations for Carlos Manzo, who would have shared the mayor's private schedule with the CJNG. The rest of the accused are the taxi drivers Josué Elogio -or Eulogio- 'N' and Ricardo Cliserio 'N'; as well as the 'messengers' Gerardo 'N' and Flor 'N'; Jaciel Antonio Herrera Torres, alias 'El Pelón'. The other seven detainees are bodyguards of Carlos Manzo, who are accused of the crime of homicide by omission, for not having guaranteed the politician's security. On the other hand, Grecia Quiroz García, Manzo's widow and appointed substitute mayor of Uruapan by the Michoacán Chamber of Deputies, reported this Tuesday to the Prosecutor's Office against two federal legislators and a former Uruapan mayor, with whom her husband had political differences, for which she requested that they be summoned to testify. The three politicians reported are the federal deputy Leonel Godoy, Senator Raúl Morón and the former mayor Ignacio Campos. All are members of the officialist party National Regeneration Movement (Morena). According to the authorities, in Uruapan, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, The Knights Templar, The Viagras, Pueblos Unidos and The Whites of Troya operate.
