Seven police officers were injured in the clashes. The comuneros were fighting to recover 512 hectares of forest in dispute between the comuneros of Arantepacua and Capacuaro, in Uruapan. A group of 38 comuneros traveled to Morelia to reach an agreement with the government of Aureoles Conejo; however, there were no advances. The Michoacán Attorney General's Office obtained an arrest warrant against the former governor Silvano Aureoles, who is a fugitive from justice, for the crimes of abuse of authority, torture, and qualified homicide. Likewise, arrest warrants were issued against his former Secretary of Public Security, Juan Bernardo Corona, and 14 state police officers. The events occurred in April 2017 during a four-hour operation in Arantepacua, in Nahuatzen, where four people were killed and 10 others were tortured. At that time, an armed confrontation took place between elements of the state's public security and comuneros, teachers, and normal students.
