Controversy in Morena over Yunes' Affiliation

This Wednesday, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her opinion regarding the affiliation of Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez, former member of the PAN party, to the ruling party Morena. Yunes was welcomed in the Senate by Adán Augusto López and Gerardo Fernández Noroña, which generated various responses, including that of the governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle, who questioned the decision to integrate him despite being a public enemy of the party and announced that she would formally challenge the membership.

Amid this controversy, Sheinbaum redirected the topic to the national presidency of Morena, currently led by Luisa María Alcalde Luján, former Secretary of the Interior under former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Sheinbaum urged the party and its instances to resolve internal disagreements, reminding that as head of the Executive, she would not interfere in Morena's matters.

For her part, Rocío Nahle asked the party's commission of honesty and justice not to recognize Yunes' membership in Morena, arguing that he does not represent the principles of the regeneration movement and citing alleged links to money laundering and other crimes. Additionally, the State Executive Committee of Morena published a letter on behalf of various members asking that the party not be a refuge for those who have represented the abuse of power, corruption, and betrayal of the principles of the Fourth Transformation.

It is important to note that Miguel Ángel Yunes left the National Action Party after being a key player in the approval of a judicial reform.
