Tensions Rise in Morena Over Yunes Family Affiliation

Rosa María Hernández demands rejection of Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez's affiliation to Morena, citing a lack of alignment with party principles. Tensions are escalating amid internal disputes over election strategies in Veracruz.

Tensions Rise in Morena Over Yunes Family Affiliation

Federal deputy Rosa María Hernández Espejo demanded to reject the affiliation of Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez to Morena "for the sake of consistency with the principles and in respect for the people". This request arises amid the growing internal disputes within the red party.

Yunes approached Morena during the debate on judicial reform, which was ultimately approved by his vote in favor, resulting in his expulsion from the PAN. The alliance between Morena and the Yunes family to approve judicial reform in the Senate last year is now generating tensions in the party.

Despite attempts to clarify that he had not become affiliated, the President of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, revealed on social media the initiation of Yunes's affiliation process. The governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle, demanded the Morena commission of honesty and justice reject Yunes's affiliation, threatening to present evidence against him for "money laundering and other crimes".

Tension escalated when Morena's national leadership began the affiliation of figures with seats in the Senate. There are conflicting opinions within Morena, as some sectors fear that the prohibition on direct family members of executive figures competing could affect the political situation in Veracruz Puerto, governed by Patricia Lobeira Rodríguez, the senator's wife.

The dispute over the affiliation of Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez reveals differences regarding his past and his participation in future elections. Despite the support of some Morena leaders, such as Gerardo Fernández Noroña and Adán Augusto, the rejection from others due to his judicial history and his possible role in the municipal elections in June creates uncertainty within the party.
