AI-Generated Pornography Scandal Rocks Zacatecas School

A school in Zacatecas is embroiled in a scandal after students used AI to create explicit material of their peers, leading to protests and a criminal investigation.

AI-Generated Pornography Scandal Rocks Zacatecas School

At least 400 students at the Secondary Technical School Number 1, located in the capital of Zacatecas, have been identified as victims of the creation and dissemination of pornographic material generated through artificial intelligence (AI).

Reports indicate that some of these images were also animated to create short videos. This material was compiled and distributed through social networks, including WhatsApp groups, an Instagram profile, and a cloud storage site, where the content was organized with the full names and grades of the victims.

According to information from local media, the case involves three third-grade students from the same institution. Presumably, one of them, a 14-year-old identified as the main author, took photographs of his classmates. Subsequently, using AI applications, those involved digitally altered these photographs to create a catalog of explicit images, where minors appeared nude and in sexual poses.

The incident has sparked protests from parents and students, who blocked Adolfo López Mateos Boulevard last Monday, November 10. The protesters demanded sanctions for those responsible and the removal of school authorities for a presumed omissive and negligent response to the severity of the situation.

School officials described the events as "just a heavy prank" and even attempted to destroy evidence when the first group of parents came to complain on Friday, November 7, according to reports from Proceso and Milenio. Furthermore, the social worker allegedly told the affected female students that it was their fault for wearing a "short skirt."

Following Monday's demonstration, the Zacatecas Secretariat of Education intervened and committed to parents the temporary removal of the director and the social worker from their positions. Meanwhile, the Zacatecas State Attorney General's Office (FGJEZ) confirmed the opening of an investigation folder for crimes against sexual privacy. To date, it has been reported that at least 80 victims have formally filed a complaint.
