Disappearance of Merari Noemí García Mejía in Zapopan

In a torture and training field at the Izaguirre ranch in Jalisco, the sneakers, Bible, and suitcase of Merari Noemí, a 19-year-old single mother who disappeared in 2024, were found. Despite this, her family refuses to declare her dead, as there is no certainty that she passed away in that place.

According to Rubí, Merari Noemí's sister, the last day they saw the young woman was May 20 of the year she disappeared when she went looking for a job. Merari Noemí had gone to the Zapopan bus terminal in Jalisco to respond to a false job offer and it is presumed she was forcibly recruited by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Merari Noemí, who was the second of three sisters and lived in Zapopan, was a woman who had just separated from her partner, with whom she had a child. To seek economic improvement, she accepted a job offer that promised significantly higher pay than that of a Mexican soldier, which raised concerns in her family.

Despite the circumstances of Merari Noemí's disappearance, the family maintains hope that she may appear alive. The search for answers regarding her whereabouts has been complicated, with the added difficulty that the cremation of bodies involved with the human remains has affected the possibility of extracting DNA to confirm the identity of the found remains.

Rubí, amid the uncertainty, makes a heart-wrenching plea to those who detained her sister, asking them to put themselves in the shoes of the thousands of families who suffer from the disappearance of a loved one. With only a few clues, such as the last call tracked at the Zapopan bus terminal, Merari Noemí's family hopes to have some indication that allows them to find her safe and reunite once again.
