The General Hospital of Occidente "Zoquipan" in Zapopan celebrated its 46th anniversary along with Doctor's Day in Mexico. The event highlighted the importance of doctors as the conscience of society and recognized their tireless efforts. Ana Gabriela Mena Rodríguez, General Director of OPD Health Services Jalisco, emphasized that medicine is an art that combines science, technique, and a humanistic approach towards the patient.
During the ceremony, which took place in the auditorium of the Geriatric HGO, the Secretary of Health of the State of Jalisco, Fernando Petersen Aranguren, praised the response of doctors in Jalisco within the Health Care System, especially during the covid-19 pandemic. Petersen expressed his gratitude to health professionals for their courage and dedication in critical times.
In his remarks, Petersen quoted Dr. Ignacio Chávez to highlight the trust that society places in the conscience of doctors. He also recalled the global impact of the pandemic and the fundamental role that doctors played in containing the virus. Despite more than 20,700 deaths from covid-19 in Jalisco, Petersen reported that only 300 of them corresponded to health personnel, underlining their sacrifice and commitment.
Additionally, recognitions were given to several health professionals for their outstanding careers and dedication to the care of the population. The event highlighted improvements in infrastructure and equipment at Hospital Zoquipan, evidencing the continuous commitment to providing quality medical care in the region.
