Severe North Event Forecasted in Mexico Gulf Coast

A mass of cold air will maintain the very strong 'Norte' event in the southern Gulf of Mexico coast, causing heavy rains, isolated precipitation, and showers in several states such as Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Veracruz, Campeche, and Tabasco. During the afternoon-night of Monday, cold front 36 will enter the northwest of the Republic, interacting with polar and subtropical jet streams, which will cause strong to very strong wind gusts with dust storms in that region.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) has alerted about the intensification of strong winds in Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Puebla, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco. The recommendation is to take precautions against possible forest fires, falling trees, or billboards. In addition, frost is expected in mountainous areas of several states, from Chihuahua and Durango to Baja California, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Zacatecas, and others.

On the other hand, the 'Norte' event will cause very intense wind gusts in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec, as well as elevated waves in various areas, including the Baja California Peninsula, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo.

In contrast, some states will continue to experience extreme temperatures, reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius in Sonora, Sinaloa, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. Others will remain between 30 to 40 degrees, such as Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Morelos, and many other provinces.

In Mexico City, a warm to hot environment is expected, with no chances of rain but possible dust storms due to wind gusts. Temperatures will range from 6 to 8 degrees as a minimum and from 26 to 28 degrees as a maximum for the afternoon today. Temperatures began to decrease since the afternoon of Sunday and this trend is expected to continue throughout March 17, according to the National Meteorological Service.

In the State of Mexico, a minimum temperature of 1 to 3 degrees is expected at night and a maximum of 23 to 25 degrees during the day.
