The Mexican Academy of the Language mourns the passing of renowned philologist and academic Margit Frenk, who dedicated her life to the study of the Spanish language.


Mexican Philologist Margit Frenk Dies at 100

Margit Frenk's editorial work at the helm of the magazines Literatura Mexicana and Literaturas Populares made it possible to study in detail the oral tradition, popular cultures, the romancero, Don Quixote, and the theater of the Spanish Golden Age.

Through a statement, the Mexican Academy of the Language lamented the death of the woman who dedicated her life to the study of the Spanish language.

Margit bequeathed to culture and literature works such as the Cancionero folklórico de México, the Nuevo corpus de la antigua lírica popular hispánica (siglos XV-XVII), and the Cancionero poético de Gaspar Fernández (Puebla 1609-1616).

She served as a professor at El Colegio de México (Colmex) and at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (FFyL) of the UNAM.

A philologist, researcher, and academic, Margit Frenk died at the age of 100.
