Gasoline Price Increase Affects Mexican Families

The national president of the National Action Party (PAN), Jorge Romero Herrera, emphasized that the rise in gasoline prices directly impacts the costs of public and private transport, as well as basic products such as fruits, vegetables, and medications. He also assured that PAN continues to promote proposals to address the needs of the population, such as the reduction of the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) and the control of fuel prices, with a commitment to work for the well-being of Mexicans.

Romero explained that approximately half of the cost per liter of gasoline is made up of taxes such as IEPS and VAT, indicating that the government has the capacity to lower the price if it so desired for the benefit of Mexican families. He criticized the current administration for not fulfilling the campaign promises made, such as the significant reduction in fuel prices.

The PAN leader questioned the government's explanation regarding the high gasoline prices, noting that they attribute the problem to inflation and international oil prices. He argued that the government has neglected election promises and that the current price of fuel could be lower if the corresponding taxes were reduced.

Through a press conference, Romero denounced the lack of coherence from the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador and accused him of not fulfilling his commitment to lower gasoline prices, which currently hover around 25 pesos per liter. He pointed out that the price increase negatively affects the economy of Mexican families by raising the costs of essential products and services.

In this regard, the PAN leader highlighted that the proposal to reduce the IEPS and set a cap on gasoline prices at 20 pesos per liter aims primarily to protect the population’s wallet against the increasingly high expenses arising from the rise in fuel prices. He concluded by reaffirming the party's commitment to the citizenry to propose solutions and contribute to improving their quality of life.
