
The Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) presented its annual report for 2024, highlighting that the luxury car segment experienced a decline of 9.8% compared to the previous year. Among the five best-selling vehicles in this category are the Toyota Prius, Camry, Mini, A3, and Series 3.
On the other hand, other segments of the automotive market in Mexico experienced growth. Sports vehicles led with a 46.5% increase, followed by heavy trucks with a 40.7% rise. Subcompact cars and crossover SUVs also had notable growth at 13.1% and 13.4% respectively.
In contrast, compact vehicles only increased by 0.5%, reaching 278,095 units sold, while subcompacts remained the best-selling segment with 317,350 units sold in the country. The AMDA emphasized that multi-purpose vehicles and light trucks, including pickups, reached record sales levels.
According to AMDA, market share is distributed as follows: multi-purpose vehicles at 40.2%, followed by subcompacts at 21.2%, compacts at 18.6%, light trucks at 17.2%, luxury vehicles at 2.1%, sports cars at 0.6%, and heavy trucks at 0.1% of total dealership sales.
In general terms, the automotive market of 2024 positioned itself as the third-best year since 2016, with a total of 1,496,797 units sold. Expectations for 2025 are optimistic, with projections to maintain or exceed last year's figures, considering factors such as credit, vehicle supply, inventories, new brands, and dealerships.
