The Federal Consumer Attorney's Office (Profeco) has intensified its fight against gas stations that impose unjustified increases in fuel prices in Mexico, significantly exceeding the average cost. This week, a service station in Colonia del Valle was flagged with a banner that read 'Don't Fuel Here, they are hiking the prices,' due to selling regular or Magna gasoline at 24.99 pesos per liter and Premium at 26.99 pesos per liter, above the national average.
In the Profeco's statement, it is mentioned that these banners, signed by the Ministry of Economy and Profeco, aim to alert the population about abusive gas stations and encourage them to establish fairer prices. Additionally, three other gas stations are highlighted as expensive and abusive in different regions of Mexico.
The head of Profeco, Iván Escalante Ruiz, clarified that the banners do not imply the closure of the business or any administrative sanctions, but seek to alert consumers about possible abuses and promote more ethical practices in the fuel market. According to Article 13 of the Federal Consumer Protection Law, gas stations must justify price increases in gasoline and diesel, as well as demonstrate the necessary permits for their operation.
