The Government of the State of Guanajuato, led by the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, Lupita Robles León, is working on new actions aimed at increasing tourist flow to the region and creating greater economic opportunities for local communities. In this regard, strategic partnerships have been established with the World Tourism Organization based in Madrid, Spain, prior to the start of the 45th International Tourism Fair (FITUR), one of the most important events globally in the tourism industry.
During a meeting with Gustavo Santos, regional director for the Americas of UN Tourism, representing the governor of Guanajuato, Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo, Robles León emphasized the importance of promoting inclusive, sustainable tourism development centered on local communities. It was agreed to work on strategies that prioritize innovation, education, and measuring environmental impact, such as training in English for tourism industry staff and the implementation of the pilot program for Measuring Tourism Sustainability (MST) in the state.
One of the goals is for Guanajuato to be selected as the host of the Regional Gastronomic Tourism Forum to strengthen its culinary identity internationally. Robles León stated: "This collaboration with UN Tourism will strengthen our strategies for Guanajuato to become a benchmark for sustainable tourism, with tangible benefits for local communities."
During FITUR, which will take place from January 22 to 26, 2025, the Guanajuato delegation will seek to consolidate alliances with different sector actors, such as SEGITTUR to adopt models of tourism innovation, Travelport to connect Guanajuato with global tourism networks, as well as specialized operators in luxury tourism and major travel. Additionally, tourism destinations, routes, and circuits from the state will be presented with the aim of attracting tourists from key international markets such as the United States, Spain, Canada, and Colombia.
