The meetings industry in Mexico is an important engine for the economy, as it facilitates SMEs to establish links to reach agreements that drive their development. Additionally, the regions where these meetings take place benefit, as it is considered a source of tourism that generates an inevitable economic spillover due to the influx of national and international entrepreneurs.
Last year, the Ministry of Tourism committed to implementing schemes and proposals that encourage the organization of events, strengthen relationships with suppliers in the sector, and establish regulations that create incentives for the development of meetings in the country. Two key initiatives are the "Regional Digitalization of Tourist Destination Squares in Mexico" and the "Meeting Industry Barometer," which have contributed to consolidating the sector through measurement and analysis of its impact.
To consolidate a robust and healthy meetings sector, it is essential to implement sustainable strategies that allow for an increase in the number of events without affecting the environment. The Mexican Committee of the Meetings Industry has developed a checklist with the necessary guidelines to conduct sustainable meetings, based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Recommendations include efficient waste management, collaboration with catering companies committed to sustainable practices, and the use of spaces with environmental certifications.
The meetings sector in Mexico is in a phase of potential expansion, with projections from the agency PCPeople to organize more than 800 annual events by 2025. This goal, which represents approximately 15 meetings per week, is achievable thanks to the strategic alliance in the sector between Creatividad and PRIM, the two organizations that have joined forces to establish this agency.
The purpose of these meetings is to establish connections that generate meaningful emotions in the participating entrepreneurs, turning each event into a memorable experience. With a strengthened and trained team to exceed expectations, the aim is to maintain enthusiasm and dedication while reaffirming the commitment to sustainability by promoting the creation of responsible events that generate a positive impact on attendees and the environment. This initiative is essential to adapt to the evolving needs of clients and society and to transform the meetings sector comprehensively.
