This Wednesday, President Claudia Sheinbaum justified the increase in highway tolls nationwide, despite users' criticisms regarding deficiencies in the safety and condition of certain roads. She explained that her commitment was to keep the price of highways without an increase in real terms, following inflation as a parameter, which she compared to the adjustment in gasoline prices that has been made.
"It’s just inflation, the increase is equivalent to inflation," she mentioned. Furthermore, she pointed out that the increase in the minimum wage nationwide contributes to users not perceiving an increase in toll prices in real terms. Sheinbaum also highlighted that various programs for both safety and road maintenance are being implemented, including the "Bachetón" program aimed at repairing important roads in the country.
The governor recalled that many of these actions and investments are driven by the private sector through concessions that offer alternative routes to the Federal Roads and Bridges (Capufe). These investments and additional tolls are the responsibility of the private sector and not the Government, which contributes to the improvement and maintenance of the national road network.
