In Nuevo León, women represent 37.7% of the employed workforce, increasing their participation in economic activities. Microenterprises dominate with 89.7%.


Increase of Female Participation in Employment

In the last five years, women have increased their participation in the economic activities of Nuevo León, contributing 11.5% of the total income of the entity. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), among the 209,041 establishments in this region, women represent 39.8% of the occupied workforce, which amounts to 845,342 people.

In the private sector and in state-owned enterprises, 179,542 economic units operated in 2023, employing 1,857,476 people. Of these, 89.7% are microenterprises that employ up to 10 people and provide jobs for 22.3% of the occupied workforce in the entity.

Inegi revealed that in 2023, women represented 37.7% of the total occupied workforce, reflecting an increase from the 35.9% recorded in 2018. In the non-financial private services sector, female participation was 45.9%, while male participation reached 54.1%.

For the first time, the Economic Census 2024 included data on the employment of people with disabilities. In 2023, it was identified that 2,458 economic units employed individuals with some type of disability. The most common difficulty was visual impairment, even with the use of glasses, affecting 5,569 people, followed by difficulties in speaking or communicating, which affected 471 people.
