The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, visited the Libertad Dam, which is expected to be inaugurated in March along with the president and Conagua. The dam's wall will be almost two kilometers long and 52 meters high, providing 1,600 liters of water per second to supply more than 5.5 million inhabitants in the city.
During the inspection, García highlighted that with the completion of the wall, the construction of the dam is finished, thus fulfilling the dream of having a fourth structure of this kind in the city. The dam, which is already 27% full, will contribute to water supply through the Cerro Prieto aqueduct.
The official inauguration of the Libertad Dam is scheduled for March 26. The governor mentioned that this new dam adds to the El Cuchillo II aqueduct, which is 100 kilometers long, built in record time to address the water crisis in the region, thus stabilizing the water supply in the city.
In addition to the Libertad Dam, García emphasized the importance of other projects carried out under the Water Master Plan, which included the renovation of systems, the construction of new storage tanks, drainage improvements, among others. Now, he stressed, it is essential to care for and preserve the water resource to ensure its availability in the long term.
