Mexico's Trade Relations with US and Canada

The president of the American Chamber Mexico, Carlos García, emphasized the importance of maintaining the trade relationship between Mexico, Canada, and the United States in the free trade agreement (T-MEC). According to García, addressing issues such as migration, security, and fentanyl together can help strengthen the relationship between the nations.

Regarding the possibility of making separate trade agreements between countries, García pointed out that integration among the three remains the best way to maintain interests and trade agreements. He highlighted the relevance of strategic sectors like automotive and electronics, which are responsible for more than 50% of Mexican exports to the United States.

García stressed the importance of maintaining integrated supply chains in the automotive industry, warning that imposing high tariffs could affect market efficiency and harm consumers in both countries. He also mentioned China's growing influence in Latin America, considering it a challenge for the region.

Regarding tariffs, García mentioned that a 25% increase would significantly impact gasoline prices in the United States, which would have repercussions on the cost of living. He emphasized that non-economic factors such as migration and security influence trade negotiations between the countries.

Finally, García referred to the role of the American Chamber Mexico as an intermediary between authorities and private initiatives from both countries. He highlighted the importance of making decisions based on figures and benefits, promoting collaboration and pragmatism in trade negotiations.
