Swimmer Regina Alférez shared a video on her TikTok account announcing the sale of her Olympic cellphone with the aim of raising funds for a future project.

In the recording, Alférez explained that the device has already been sold and that she prefers to keep photos and memories instead of material objects. She mentioned that the money obtained from the sale of the phone will help her fulfill other personal projects.

Negative comments quickly followed, but Alférez responded to one that mentioned her apparent hunger due to long training sessions and pending master's tasks. She emphasized that her decision to sell the cellphone was not related to basic needs, but rather to her focus on future projects.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, which was given to Mexican athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as part of a welcome kit, features innovative characteristics such as a 6.7" screen, fingerprint recognition, facial recognition, Android 13.0 operating system, 256 GB of memory, and 256 GB of RAM, with a price of 25,000 Mexican pesos.

Although many believed that athletes would cherish this special gift, several decided to sell it, receiving criticism in the process. Mexico's participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics left an indelible mark on national athletes and event admirers due to the country's outstanding representation.
