The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that there is constant communication and agreements with the White House, despite Donald Trump's statements about imposing a 25% tariff on Mexican products this Saturday. Sheinbaum urged to remain calm in light of the situation and to wait for upcoming events.
"First, there will be higher prices; second, lower availability of products; and third, problems in the supply chain," Sheinbaum detailed about the potential consequences of the tariffs. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful dialogue to resolve this situation.
The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, pointed out that U.S. tariffs will severely affect the Mexican population in products such as cars, computers, televisions, and refrigerators. Although Trump did not specify the affected products, he mentioned deficits as the reason for imposing tariffs.
Sheinbaum mentioned that the main topics of interest for the White House are migration and the fight against fentanyl. She highlighted that there is a continuous dialogue table and agreements on relevant issues like migration, security, and trade. The president assured that they will maintain the dialogue and will be prepared for different scenarios, with plans A, B, and C.
