Reduction of Fiscal Stimuli on Gasoline in Mexico

The Government of Mexico has updated the tax incentives applied to gasoline for the week of February 1 to 7. This week, the support amount is reduced compared to the previous week. Specifically, it was reported that the support for Magna gasoline will be 13.14%, representing a decrease of more than 12 points compared to last week's figure, which was 29.1%.

These tax incentives are applied to prevent sharp increases in fuel prices, known as 'gasolinazos'. This way, the aim is to provide relief to drivers when filling up with gasoline. It is noteworthy that the amount of the Special Tax on Products and Services (IEPS) for gasoline will be 5.9 pesos this week.

Regarding Premium gasoline, this fuel will not receive tax incentives during the week in question, maintaining a trend that has persisted since October 2023. Therefore, the payment of IEPS for Premium gasoline stands at 5.45 pesos. In the case of diesel, a reduction in the support provided is observed, reaching 16.7% for the current week.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit announced the modification of the tax incentives for fuels in the Official Gazette of the Federation. These updates, while maintaining certain supports, present adjustments in the percentages of assistance for Magna gasoline, Premium, and diesel. It is important to remember that these variations will come into effect starting February 1.

In summary, the changes in the tax incentives for fuels for the week of February 1 to 7 reflect a reduction in the support granted to Magna gasoline, while Premium remains without incentives and diesel experiences a decrease in the percentage of help. These adjustments aim to regulate fuel prices without drastically affecting consumers.
