BBVA Bank in Mexico has generated controversy by announcing the increase in fees for its services, which has caused dissatisfaction among some users on social media. The financial institution reported that there will be charges for interbank and intrabank transfers, as well as for international transfers and payments in dollars.

According to BBVA, these new fees are due to the need to cover operating costs, maintain digital platforms, and enhance security and customer service. Previously, customers could perform some transactions without additional charges, but now fees will be implemented for interbank transfers and third-party payments.

Journalist Mario Di Constanzo noted that in 2024, the bank earned 83 billion pesos in commission income, which represented 64% of its operating profit. Despite the criticisms, BBVA has communicated that there will continue to be services without fees.

BBVA in Mexico has begun adjustments to its fee plan in 2025, generating debate among users. Despite the implementation of new charges, the financial entity assures that they seek to strengthen their technological infrastructure and improve the experience of customers in a digitized environment.

Among the services that will remain free are cardless withdrawals and withdrawals at BBVA ATMs (up to four times a month). Despite the explanations given by the bank, user reactions have not been long in coming, especially from those who previously benefited from commission-free services.
