New Energy Efficiency Measures in Mexican Offices

The General Directorate of Material Resources, Public Works and General Services (DGRMOPySG) informed the heads of units and general directors of the Undersecretariat of Expenditures and Administrative Coordination of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) about provisions to optimize electricity consumption in their facilities.

Circular letter No. 400/SSE/2025/0109, issued by the Administrative Coordination of the Undersecretariat of Expenditures of the SHCP, mentions the prohibition of using household appliances in offices in order to save energy. This includes the prohibition of devices such as televisions, radios, coffee makers, microwaves, and fans, among others, that generate heat or consume a lot of energy.

Frequent fluctuations in energy in SHCP properties have led to an increased risk of electrical overload in workplaces. For this reason, actions will be taken to remove household appliances and white goods, such as refrigerators, mini-fridges, microwave ovens, coffee makers, televisions, radios, and other electrical equipment that generate heat.

Starting from February 17 of this year, the implementation of these measures will be verified. The cooperation of all personnel is requested to optimize energy consumption in SHCP facilities through actions such as turning off and unplugging unused devices, taking advantage of natural light, turning off unnecessary lights, minimizing the use of power strips or extensions, and utilizing natural ventilation during the hot season, avoiding excessive use of air conditioners and fans.
