The government of Nuevo León has the main objective of strengthening the competitiveness, profitability, productivity, and sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (Mipymes) in the region in order to take advantage of nearshoring. According to the Strategic Plan 2040, specific actions have been established to achieve this purpose, considering that Mipymes represent 99.3% of economic units in Nuevo León and employ 54.9% of the occupied workforce.
88.8% of economic units in NL are microenterprises, followed by 8.2% small businesses, 2.3% medium-sized enterprises, and 0.7% large companies. However, Mipymes face challenges in training, access to financing, technology, security, and efficient linkages, which limits their competitiveness and productivity.
The government highlights the importance of Mipymes developing capabilities to offer value-added services beyond traditional manufacturing, adopting new technologies, and innovating in their processes to maximize benefits. It is essential to facilitate their emergence, develop their human capital, professionalize their management, and reduce obstacles to accessing financing.
To achieve these objectives, measures will be implemented such as improving existing regulations, simplifying procedures and permits, incorporating digital tools, standardizing processes, decreasing requirements to complete procedures, promoting the formation of cooperatives, providing mentorship and financial support, as well as boosting the digital transformation of Mipymes.
The government emphasizes the importance of linking Mipymes as suppliers to strategic sectors at the national and global level, especially to supply chains of companies that are relocating investments in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This strategy could improve operational stability and strengthen the organization of Mipymes in Nuevo León.
