According to a study conducted by the Tecmilenio Institute of Integral Wellbeing Sciences, it was revealed that Millennials and Centennials in Mexico are the most dissatisfied in the workplace. This research showed that up to seven out of ten individuals belonging to these generations are not satisfied with the wellness policies and programs offered by the companies they work for.
In comparison to Baby Boomers and Generation X, the younger individuals from the more recent generations express lower levels of job satisfaction. Only 32% of Millennials and 31% of Centennials believe that their employers care about promoting healthy practices such as rest, work-life disconnection, and their communication needs.
On the other hand, Baby Boomers and Generation X are more satisfied with wellness-focused labor policies. The study indicated that 43% of Boomers and 35% of Generation X employees are highly satisfied with their companies' efforts to promote healthy habits and care for their wellbeing.
According to Iván Guerrero, Director of Business Solutions at the Institute of Integral Wellbeing Sciences, Millennials and Centennials feel that their health and wellbeing expectations, as well as their need for recognition within the organization, are not being fully met.
Job dissatisfaction among young people is largely due to the perception that their employers do not provide the necessary tools to achieve a balance between work and personal life. Millennials and Centennials seek a better balance between work and personal life, valuing professional development in inspiring environments and with leaders who foster their growth and learning.
The study also points out that, despite generational differences, all individuals desire to achieve a better quality of life in their work environment. Companies should adapt to the expectations of each generation to keep their employees satisfied and engaged. In Iván Guerrero's words, the challenge for organizations lies in finding a balance that offers stability to experienced workers while ensuring that young people feel valued and in control of their wellbeing.
