IEPS Payment Update for Gasoline in Mexico

Starting Saturday, February 22, the amount for the payment of the IEPS will be 6.0 pesos in Mexico. President Claudia Sheinbaum and Energy Secretary Luz Elena González mentioned the possibility of setting a 'ceiling' price for gasoline in the country, which would not exceed 24 pesos per liter. Conversations are being held with various sector actors to reach an agreement on this and thus combat the exorbitant increases in fuel prices.

In addition to this measure, fiscal stimuli are being applied to support drivers in the payment of fuel taxes, as part of the strategy against the 'gasolinazos'. The Federal Consumer Protection Agency is carrying out operations to expose and prevent gas stations from unjustifiably raising fuel prices across the country.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit has announced a slight reduction in fiscal stimuli for fuels starting next week. Specifically, the fiscal stimulus for Magna gasoline drops to 14.04%, which translates to an amount for the payment of the IEPS of 5.5 pesos per liter. As for Premium gasoline, it continues to receive no fiscal stimuli.

In the case of diesel, a reduction in support is recorded, falling from 17.30% to 14.18% this week. Despite the decrease, it maintains a stable fiscal stimulus amount since the second week of January.
