President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed that The Home Depot plans to invest 1.3 billion dollars in Mexico between 2025 and 2028 as part of the Mexico Plan. This will result in the opening of five new stores each year, providing 20,000 direct jobs and 80,000 indirect jobs. The importance of this investment lies in strengthening employment and promoting local supply, with the goal that all products sold by Home Depot are of Mexican origin.
According to Sheinbaum, this initiative is part of a series of significant investments that will arrive in Mexico in the coming years. The aim of the Mexico Plan is to position Mexico among the top ten economies globally, strengthening both the domestic market and international presence, as well as increasing the proportion of investment relative to GDP. It is also intended that 50% of products and national demand come from Mexico in strategic sectors.
The President and CEO of Home Depot Mexico, José Antonio Rodríguez Garza, highlighted the company's dedication to the development of the country. This investment will allow for the identification, development, and integration of more local suppliers, as well as promote the export of Mexican products to stores in the U.S. and Canada. Rodríguez Garza emphasized that what is made in Mexico possesses innovation, quality, and value, benefiting millions of families abroad.
Ximena Escobedo Juárez, head of the Productive Development Unit of the Ministry of Economy, assured that this investment aligns with the government's strategy to strengthen national industry and attract more foreign investment. For his part, Rodríguez Garza stated that Home Depot is committed to continue investing in Mexico, contributing to employment, economic growth, and housing development in the country.
Regarding the Mexico Plan, presented by Sheinbaum in January, this constitutes a collaborative strategy between the government and the private sector in response to potential tariff impositions from the U.S. The 'Made in Mexico' campaign will be a fundamental part of the initiative, promoting products from various national industries.
