Mexico Seizes Trade Opportunities with China

Mexico's exports surged by 354%, positioning the country to capitalize on U.S. trade restrictions against China, strengthening its international trade relations.

Mexico Seizes Trade Opportunities with China

In the last 16 years, bilateral economic exchange between Mexico and China has experienced explosive growth, with total trade increasing by 260%, rising from 34 billion to 123 billion dollars between 2009 and 2024. This growth has been reflected in a significant increase in Mexican exports to China, which have grown by 354%, reaching 10 billion dollars in the same period.

In the context of protectionist policies that the United States is implementing against China, there is an opportunity for Mexico and Latin America to expand their participation in the Chinese market. China, seeking products that the United States no longer sells, especially in the agri-food sector, has begun to consider Latin America as a key partner in this trade reshuffle. Mexico's capacity to successfully participate in this scenario is highlighted.

The presence of direct investments and the relocation of Chinese companies in Mexico has helped strengthen the productivity of the Asian country. This in turn can increase Mexico's ability to serve the more than 40 countries with which it has free trade agreements, opening up new global trade opportunities for Mexican companies.

The Mexico-China Chamber of Commerce and Technology is ready to support Mexican companies in their quest for new clients worldwide. Through the promotion of export diversification and the opening of more opportunities in the Chinese market, the goal is to foster new trade alliances. Exporting to China presents a real possibility, and the chamber is prepared to promote the building of successful relationships in this market through effective platforms.

China seeks greater trade integration with Mexico, while the United States applies tariffs on products imported from Mexico. In this regard, the China Chamber states that Mexico has the capacity to expand its international reach beyond the United States, and considers that the Asian country is willing to support Mexico in achieving this objective. In a statement, the chamber highlights that, with or without tariffs, international trade has changed and they are committed to supporting companies in adapting to these changes to achieve a successful transition towards greater trade integration and strengthening commercial relations with Asia.
