The government of Mexico is committed to defending the country's economic strategy, focusing a large part of its daily labor on this objective. This was assured by the Undersecretary of Finance and Public Credit, who highlighted that, from an economic perspective, no adverse effects on international financial flows or relationships with global banks are anticipated, despite current challenges.
This stance is motivated by the uncertainty generated by Trump and local concerns over constitutional reforms, high interest rates, and the deficit recorded last year. Despite these challenges, the possibility of a recession in the base scenario is ruled out, anticipating a moderation in the country's growth, while maintaining a positive long-term outlook.
The undersecretary emphasized that, although external challenges may impact the growth rate, they will not alter the projections or deficit targets of the government. Adjustments are anticipated in sectors such as transportation, electronic devices, and electronic products, depending on trade agreements in North America.
Regarding tariffs, it was reported that the government is actively working to manage their implications, holding meetings with the business sector and trade partners. At an event with Banamex advisors, Undersecretary Amador conveyed a message of reassurance, ruling out a recession and focusing efforts on defending the national economy.
Amador emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue with the United States and explained that the reduction in total exports leads to a decrease in imports. However, he stated that the overall impact on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would be less than what pessimistic scenarios suggest.
Despite the more moderate outlook presented by the government, it is worth mentioning that Banamex has cut its growth projections for the end of 2025, reflecting current uncertainty. This adjustment came shortly after Mexico and the United States announced a new pause in the imposition of tariffs, which has generated some instability in the financial markets.
