The President of the United States, Donald Trump, decided to restart a cycle of threats and pressures to tax Mexican products, but after a dialogue between the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the U.S. president, a truce on tariffs was agreed. According to Sheinbaum, the products included in the USMCA will not be taxed.
"They put us in a framework of reciprocal tariffs for April 2 that does not exist in the USMCA," pointed out the president of Mexico City. Trump postponed the review of the tariffs until that date and emphasized the progress in migration and the fight against drug trafficking in Mexico.
After the call between Sheinbaum and Trump, it was agreed that until April 2, no Mexican product covered by the USMCA will pay trade tariffs. The president is confident that at the end of the truce, the treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada will prevail.
Various newspapers highlighted the month-long pause in tariffs agreed upon by Trump and Sheinbaum, emphasizing the positive impact on the economy and investments in Mexico.
