Rita Cetina Scholarship: Payments to Secondary Students

The Universal Basic Education Scholarship Rita Cetina was created by President Claudia Sheinbaum at the beginning of her term, with the aim of economically supporting families and promoting school retention of children, as well as the completion of their studies. By Wednesday, March 12, it is expected that beneficiaries will receive their payment of 1,900 pesos.

Julio León Trujillo, National Coordinator of Scholarships for Well-Being, reported that approximately 750,000 cards had been delivered to beneficiaries of the Rita Cetina scholarship program, with a total target of 2.9 million. By order of Claudia Sheinbaum, those who received their card in February will be able to receive their payment of 1,900 pesos on March 12. Currently, the scholarship is only awarded to secondary school students, who will be the only ones to receive payment this week.

The Rita Cetina scholarship provides 1,900 pesos bimonthly to each family, with an additional payment of 700 pesos for each additional secondary school student in the household. This year, the payment will be made for five bimonthly periods, excluding July and August as they are vacation months. In the case of secondary school, the scholarship is granted for a maximum of 30 months per beneficiary. Payments are made through Banco del Bienestar cards delivered to the beneficiary families.

The requirements to receive the Rita Cetina Scholarship are to have children enrolled in public schools, not to receive other educational scholarships simultaneously, and to meet low-income criteria or live in rural areas or with a certain degree of marginalization. Parents must be attentive to the dates for card delivery and informational assemblies in schools to learn the details of the program and receive the corresponding support.
