Carlos Slim's Potential Investment in Pemex

The owner of Grupo Carso has expressed interest in investing in Pemex's Lakach mega gas field, highlighting the importance of the necessary infrastructure to extract natural gas from deep waters. In a conference with the media, he mentioned that very few companies are dedicated to this type of work, between one and three at most.

Carlos Slim explained that the installation of a pipeline more than 900 meters deep in the Gulf of Mexico is crucial to carry out the project in the mega field. He emphasized that the continuation of the project depends on the implementation of this specific infrastructure, without which it would not be possible to move forward.

On the other hand, in a morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum commented on the possibility of establishing mixed contracts with various companies, including those of the Slim group, as part of the new approved laws. She mentioned the transparency in the approval of private and public contracts, which must be authorized by an administration council.

Sheinbaum stated that the relationship with Carlos Slim's companies has history, recalling Hitachi's participation with Pemex in the past. She detailed that under a mixed contract, the majority, 90%, would be produced by Pemex, while there would be private and public participation in the remaining margins. The president emphasized the importance of transparency in these agreements and the need to comply with established guidelines.

In February 2025, Carlos Slim mentioned the complexity of the investment project in the Lakach mega gas field, highlighting the need for technical experts to carry it out. He pointed out the depth at which the gas is located as a determining factor that will require significant investment for its extraction.
