Banks in Mexico Urged to Prioritize Social Impact

Banks in Mexico have the pending task of increasing the relevance of their social impact. Although steps have been taken in this direction, there are still opportunities to explore, as noted by Iván Mancillas, general director of Compartamos Banco. Mancillas emphasized that, with the changes on the horizon in the Association of Banks of Mexico (ABM), numerous proposals focusing on more inclusive topics are being presented, especially in the case of smaller banks.

"I believe that a more ambitious agenda in terms of social impact, education, and financial inclusion, if it manages to occupy a priority place, will already be a considerable advance. This will surely encourage a more collaborative and solid effort within the industry," Mancillas expressed in a pre-interview before the 88th Banking Convention.

One of the aspects in which Compartamos Banco considers there is room for improvement is financial inclusion. Despite the advances, there is still a need to strive to offer financial products that promote the growth of the Mexican population. After analyzing the results of the 2025 National Survey of Financial Inclusion (ENIF), Mancillas highlighted that there is still a long way to go in this area, and it is essential to persevere in this objective.
