New vehicle sales in Mexico fall in April

Light new vehicle sales in Mexico decreased by 4.6% in April, totaling 108,298 units sold. This decline is due to uncertainty over U.S. tariffs, although Nissan leads sales with a growth of 6.3%.

New vehicle sales in Mexico fall in April

The sale of new light vehicles in the Mexican market recorded a decrease of 4.6% in April, with a total of 108,298 units sold, compared to 113,496 sold in the same month of the previous year. These figures position April as the fifth month with the highest sales volume, surpassed only by April 2018, when 109,748 light vehicles were sold. The year with the highest sales was 2016, with 118,754 units, according to Inegi data.

The 4.6% drop in sales of new light vehicles in April is partly attributed to the uncertainty generated by the tariff war promoted by the United States, which has led to preemptive purchases of duty-free units and an exhaustion of inventories. Compared to March 2025, April sales fell by 15%.

During the first four months of the year, a total of 473,323 new vehicles were sold in Mexico, representing a moderate growth of 1.4%, equivalent to 6,561 more units than in 2024.

Regarding the brands with the highest sales volume, Nissan, the Japanese automaker, remains the leader in the Mexican market. During April, Nissan experienced a growth of 6.3% in its sales, while the cumulative increase from January to April was 5.8%. Mazda showed a growth of 10.9% in April, but Toyota saw a drop of 7.8%.

As for other brands, BMW reported a decrease of 17% in April, Volkswagen fell by 11.6%, Ford grew by 13.8%, and General Motors declined by 13.9%.
