Telcel Launches New Mobile Plans with 5G

Telcel has launched new packages that offer users a greater amount of mobile data, along with the novelty of the elimination of mandatory terms. This means that it is no longer compulsory to sign up for a package for a defined period, allowing cancellation when necessary. The new monthly plans now include internet with the 5G network, unlimited minutes and messages in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, as well as unlimited social media. Additionally, a cashback of up to 5 percent has been introduced, depending on the chosen plan.

Regarding the available options, the first package is 249 pesos per month and includes 4 GB of data, unlimited social media, unlimited minutes and messages, along with a 5 percent cashback. The second package, for 319 pesos monthly, offers 5 GB of data, unlimited social media, unlimited minutes and messages, and a 5 percent cashback. Subsequent packages increase in price and data capacity, with similar benefits and a cashback that reaches up to 42 percent in the 1,499 pesos per month plan.

In 2024, Telcel, owned by Carlos Slim, reported revenues of 332,024 million pesos, representing a 2.3 percent annual increase. However, the company has experienced a 1.2 percent decrease in the number of users. This is attributed to a strategy of increasing high-consumption postpaid and prepaid that has not been effective, compounded by reports of service failures, such as interruptions in calls and lack of signal that some users have recently experienced.
