The new E2 fleet of Mexico from Embraer combines fuel efficiency, a modern cabin, and exceptional operational economy, which will allow the visionary airline to expand its network and strengthen connectivity throughout the region, as announced by the Brazilian company this week.
The aircraft presented by Embraer on social media is expected to be delivered to the Mexican government by the end of May, provided that the delivery plans are met and there are no delays. For the aircraft to be admitted into Mexican territory, inspectors from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) must verify each of the aircraft that Mexicana de Aviación plans to add to its operational fleet over the next two years.
The Mexican State Airline plans to receive at least five aircraft by 2025, of which it will only be able to use four initially, as the fifth one will arrive later in the year and will require a couple of additional months for operational testing and certifications to operate in Mexico.
The acquisition of these aircraft will require an investment of over 20 billion pesos from the Mexican Treasury, in addition to covering the operational costs associated with the airline's operation. The goal is to transport 3 million passengers with the fleet that will be fully delivered by 2027.
Mexicana de Aviación, which restarted as a regional project, has struggled to maintain flights to competitive and high-demand destinations, with a significant financial deficit and million-dollar subsidies. The airline has still not managed to connect the regions of Mexico that lack air transportation as was its initial objective.
The assembly phase of the first E-195 airplane in its E2 version for Mexicana has begun at the São José dos Campos factory in Brazil, according to the Latin American aircraft manufacturer. This aircraft, in the final construction stage, represents part of the order of 20 aircraft made by the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) to increase the capacity of the state airline. This advancement is considered a significant milestone in the airline's modernization strategy.
