Mexican Farmers and Transporters Reach Agreement with Authorities

This Thursday, the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside and transport organizations reached an agreement with federal authorities after days of blockades on roads and borders, highlighting overdue payments and a special prosecutor's office.

Baltazar Valdez, leader of the Front, confirmed that the agreement was finalized with the Secretariat of Agriculture and the Secretariat of the Interior, and emphasized that the release of the blocked road points would begin to conclude the negotiation.

«We have achieved the signing of the agreement with the Secretariat of Agriculture, with the Secretariat of the Interior, and it is necessary that all points where there are traffic jams on the road and at the border be cleared to conclude the agreement with Secretary Berdegué and with Undersecretary César Yañez,» stated Valdez.

We kindly ask that this be complied with in order to conclude this negotiation stage, and in a little while we will upload the document so that everyone can know it.

Among the agreed commitments, the payment of pending support for agricultural producers and the creation of working tables to discuss the exclusion of corn and wheat from the Free Trade Agreement with the United States and Canada (USMCA) were included, with the aim of protecting national production.

Additionally, new agricultural credit schemes will be analyzed to provide greater financial support to producers, and production costs will be reviewed to establish guaranteed prices that provide certainty for the upcoming agricultural cycles.

In the area of water resources, the government committed to considering modifications to the initiative of the new National Water Law, including the transfer of concessions and differentiated treatment for human, industrial, and primary uses.

It was also announced that windows will be opened for the registration and payment of beneficiaries of the guaranteed price for wheat, in order to streamline the support processes.

To guarantee the participation of all involved sectors, three working tables will be formed starting December 8, in which peasant organizations, transporters, and federal dependencies will participate.

Finally, the creation of a specialized prosecutor's office for the transport sector was agreed upon, where drivers and companies can report crimes committed on roads and in loading areas.
