The government of Baja California Sur (BCS) has confirmed the continuity of the tourist fee program known as 'Embrace it' for the entire year 2026 for international travelers. This initiative, backed by government institutions and the private sector, ensures that international visitors comply with this legal obligation that funds sustainability projects in the state. This certificate can be requested randomly at airports and entry points to verify payment compliance. Hugo Chapoy Córdova, director of Revenue at Tourist Tax México, the entity responsible for the administration of the digital payment system, assured that the commitment is to maintain a secure, simple, and accessible process for tourists. The current fee for 2025 is 470 Mexican pesos per person, equivalent to about $25 US dollars, depending on the current exchange rate. Payment is mandatory for all international travelers over 12 years of age entering BCS by land through border crossings or via the airports of Los Cabos, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, and Loreto. The payment must be made exclusively online through the official portal https://embraceit.bcs.gob.mx/, and can be completed before the trip or upon arrival at the destination. According to figures from the Pacific Airport Group, between January and August 2025, Baja California Sur registered the arrival of more than 3,858,600 foreign tourists, reflecting an increase of 0.93% compared to the same period of the previous year. The system uses technology from Travelkore, a global platform specializing in tourist tax management and digital regulatory compliance. The operation of 'Embrace it' under the 'Una Sola Voz' program articulates the state government, the private initiative, and the tourism industry to convey a unified message to visitors: 'Pay the tourist fee and protect Baja California Sur.' The resources obtained are directly destined for the preservation of the environment, the optimization of tourism-focused infrastructure, and the execution of social and cultural projects that ensure the sustainability of the destination for current and future generations of tourists. This model positions Baja California Sur within the international trend where travelers actively participate in preserving the destinations they choose. The measure is framed under the 'Una Sola Voz' concept, a collaborative scheme involving government institutions and the private sector, seeking to guarantee the sustainability of the destination and clarity for international visitors. The main objective is to ensure that each international traveler complies with their legal obligation to contribute the tax destined to finance the protection of the environment, the improvement of tourist infrastructure, and the promotion of cultural projects throughout the state. 'Embrace it' is a tourist fee legally authorized by Article 129 Bis of the Baja California Sur State Revenue Law. Once the transaction is completed, the system issues an electronic certificate that includes a unique QR code.
