Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) confirmed that it addressed an incident that occurred outside the perimeter wall of the Olmeca refinery, which resulted in the death of five people. Among the victims was an employee of the institution. The incident was caused by heavy rains in the area, which caused oily waters to overflow out of the facility. This flow caused an accumulation and subsequent ignition of the liquid, according to a press release. The company reported that the event is under control and assured that it does not pose a risk to the population or personnel. Elements of Pemex's Strategic Guard area began collaborating with the corresponding authorities to determine the causes of the incident. Pemex lamented the deaths and expressed condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. Likewise, the institution communicated that it will provide comprehensive care and accompaniment to the people who were injured, in coordination with the official instances, to guarantee that they receive the necessary care.
