Rising Prices in Mexico and Sheinbaum's Stance on Cuba Blockade

Mexico's basic consumer basket is getting more expensive. President Sheinbaum announced new aid to Cuba and condemned the blockade. Conagua found violations in water usage by a deputy.

In Mexico, prices for basic goods continue to rise. According to data from the Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco), the average cost of a basic consumer basket is 910 pesos. In Mexico City, the lowest price is found at the Soriana Hiper Miyana store in the Miguel Hidalgo borough, where it costs 851.10 pesos. Other cities also have low-price offers: Chedraui in Campeche sells the basket for 819.60 pesos, while Soriana in Tuxtla Gutiérrez offers it for 810.90 pesos.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, during her morning press conference, announced new aid for Cuba. She called on the United Nations to also send humanitarian aid to the island nation. Sheinbaum expressed a strong protest against the U.S. blockade of Cuba and against any sanctions against countries that send fuel to the island.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) uncovered violations by a deputy from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Mario Calzada. In Querétaro, he illegally accumulated 628 cubic meters of water under five permits. One of the permits was for an agricultural and livestock well that was being used to commercially sell water in tankers.
