Mexico Introduces Tax Incentives for Heavy Vehicle Renewal

Mexico allocates 2 billion pesos for a program allowing truck owners to immediately deduct the cost of new vehicles from taxes. New safety standards are also introduced.

Mexico has introduced a tax incentive program for the renewal of heavy vehicles. This was announced by Minister of the Economy Marcelo Ebrard. The goal is to facilitate access to tax deductions and reduce the cost of purchasing new units in the auto transport industry. Two billion pesos from the Plan Mexico will be allocated to allow buyers to immediately deduct the acquisition of fixed assets. Once the permit is granted, they can apply for the benefit. The program also includes a new official Mexican standard for safety devices, aiming to homogenize regulations on seatbelts and seats; lighting and controls; mirrors and indirect vision; headrests and indicators. During the previous morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum, along with officials from the Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE), informed about detained nationals in the United States and the care of deported persons. According to official data, to date, nine nationals have died in ICE custody for various reasons, including medical complications, suicide, shooting, or an operation. The head of state expressed her desire for the Gelman collection, which brings together 10 paintings by Frida Kahlo, to stay in Mexico, given the possibility that they might be taken to Spain. She also lamented the direct attack on two high school teachers in Michoacán by a 15-year-old youth identified as Osmar 'N'. She affirmed that this benefit could be applied starting from the current fiscal year. To access the tax incentive, interested parties must review the guidelines and requirements of the program. She also mentioned the approval of the initiative that eliminates the 'golden pensions' for former Pemex and other state-owned company officials. The press conference could also address other topics of national and international interest.
