Mexican company Kriketti wins environmental award for cricket-based products

Mexican company Kriketti, producing food from cricket powder, won the Environmental Impact Award at Bienfest 2025. It was recognized for its alternative protein with a lower environmental footprint compared to traditional sources.

Mexican company Kriketti, which produces food based on cricket powder, won the Environmental Impact Award (Premio Verde) at the Bienfest 2025 awards. These awards distinguish brands and professionals in the wellness sector in Mexico and Latin America. The firm was recognized for its alternative protein proposal with a lower environmental impact compared to traditional sources. This type of protein represents an option with a smaller environmental footprint compared to beef or chicken production, as it requires fewer water resources, generates fewer greenhouse gases, and occupies less land space. Kriketti was founded by Jaqueline Malpica and Mónica Balderas. The project began with cricket farming six years ago and started selling its products three years ago. Prior to the launch, the founders conducted studies on the insect's life cycle and its properties, with the support of biology and food engineering specialists, in order to standardize its production. Malpica noted that the award reflects the product's acceptance in the market and expressed her pride in promoting sustainable alternatives. "Fortunately, we have reached more people who have consumed our product and believe in the protein of the future, as we call it," she stated. The Bienfest Awards have positioned themselves as a recognition platform in the wellness industry in the region.
