Guanajuato: Second in Transport Manufacturing, but with Slowdown Signals

The state ranks second nationally in the manufacturing of transportation equipment, with a 12.8% share in this strategic subsector. Among the leaders… with signs of adjustment. Despite its weight on the export map, Guanajuato showed a contrast with entities that showed accelerated growth, such as Jalisco and Chihuahua. The data does not take away its prominence, but it does introduce a warning signal: the state remains part of Mexico's hard core of exporters, although it is facing a moment of deceleration in its recent performance.

Ready infrastructure is key. Guanajuato Puerto Interior (GPI) can explain part of this behavior as the entity's export powerhouse. Guanajuato remains a key piece of Mexican foreign trade by being part of the group of six states that concentrate 66.9% of the country's exports, an economic elite also integrated by Chihuahua, Jalisco, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Baja California.

96.5% of this entity's exports come from the manufacturing sector due to the strong presence of the automotive industry, where Guanajuato is already one of the main nodes in the country. With a 5.7% share of the national total, the entity positions itself as the sixth-largest exporter of Mexico, confirming its structural weight in the country's industrial economy. This block of states not only dominates foreign trade but also defines much of the national economic dynamism, concentrating more than two-thirds of Mexico's international sales.

The industrial weight of Guanajuato. In absolute terms, Guanajuato exported 9,468.6 million dollars during the fourth quarter of 2025, with a clearly manufacturing profile: 96.5% of its exports come from this sector. Within this category, the automotive industry stands out. Located in Silao, it is positioned as the most dynamic dry port in Latin America and one of the most strategic logistics nodes in the country. Its multimodal connectivity —air, road, and rail— makes it a key piece for industrial operation and foreign trade. The complex concentrates more than 5,500 million dollars in investment and generates more than 30,000 direct jobs, consolidating itself as one of the main economic engines of the state, especially for the automotive and manufacturing industries.
