Sheinbaum Announces New Measures to Reduce Diesel Prices in Mexico

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced a new agreement to reduce the price of diesel. She previously stated that the liter of diesel had reached 30 pesos but has since decreased, though her government wants to lower the cost even further. 'At the same time, the support we are giving by reducing taxes on gasoline and diesel so that it does not impact inflation and, above all, the family economy,' she added. Sheinbaum promised that the government will continue negotiations with gas station owners to further lower prices. Currently, the price of diesel is around 28.23 pesos per liter, which is still higher than the 24-peso cap set for Magna gasoline. The president acknowledged that these increases are due to the impact of the war in Iran on oil prices. Without the tax incentives, the price of diesel could be close to 35 pesos, she explained. The government has also increased tax incentives for diesel during Holy Week to 70.28%.
