Prices of products for the Day of the Dead in Mexico have increased by 26% in 2024, forcing families to plan their expenses in advance to celebrate meaningfully.

The preparations to celebrate the Day of the Dead in Mexico involve a series of expenses on traditional products and services. Among the common prices, we can mention tequila at $300, water at $13.00, a sugar skull for $30.00, pan de muerto for $22.00, salt for $18.00, among others.

One of the central elements of the celebration is pan de muerto, which is prepared on the eve of the celebration. In addition to the traditional flavors of anise and orange, various flavors, fillings, and gluten-free options can currently be found.

Besides the mentioned products, the preparations for the Day of the Dead include expenses on snacks, bags of candies, beverages (sodas, beers, and tequila), decorations, and costumes for the guests. These costs have been increasing, highlighting the importance of planning ahead to celebrate meaningfully and affordably.

The prices of the bread vary depending on the place of purchase. From local bakeries, franchises, to supermarkets, costs fluctuate according to the quality and presentation of the product. Costumes for children, as well as themed parties, also represent an additional expense for those wishing to fully enjoy the celebration.

On the other hand, the celebration of Halloween has also gained popularity. For 2024, it is estimated that the cost of preparing an altar will reach $1,809 pesos, representing a 26% increase compared to the previous year. The prices of typical products for both festivities have experienced a notable increase, emphasizing the importance of anticipating expenses to fully enjoy these traditional celebrations.
