Mexico seeks to maximize the benefits of the USMCA

Experts who participated in the Annual Industrial Meeting (RAI) indicate that Mexico has the opportunity to maximize the benefits of the USMCA through an industrial policy. Johannes Dobinger, representative of the UN Office for Industrial Development, highlights the need for a comprehensive industrial policy that links to trade issues. He refers to a study conducted in collaboration with the Foreign Ministry two years ago, which identified 5 industrial corridors focused on commercial potential and local economy.

In the panel, Julie Poirier, Trade Policy Advisor at the Canadian Embassy in Mexico, mentions the importance of strengthening regional collaboration through the review of the USMCA. She emphasizes the need to expedite processes to support companies benefited by the treaty and improve economic security in the region. She underscores the importance of the three partner countries having the right tools to protect a sustainable development model and national policies focused on that objective.

Enrique de la Madrid, former Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, analyst, and consultant, advocates for an industrial policy focused on priority areas. He points out that the review of the USMCA should be seen as a deadline to align Mexico's strategies, emphasizing the importance of communicating to the population the ongoing relevance of the treaty.
